1/7/06 Hudson River Tour

We finally did a Hudson River Tour where we got some good pictures. The first time I did the tour was on my night cross country when I was doing my private pilot training. We flew from Allentown (ABE) to the Verrazano Bridge, up to the Tappan Zee bridge, and over to Westchester (HPN). We landed at HPN and reversed the run back down the Hudson and back to ABE (ABE). The second time we did the tour was with my folks in their Comanche 250 and it was also at night. It is almost impossible to get good pictures at night because they come out blurry. The third time I flew it was with my folks in one of the LVFC Archers but we really didn't get any good pictures. We really got some great pictures on this trip. This route was the same as I described above, but we turned around at the Tappan Zee bridge. This is be beauty of general avation in this country...and no user fees! Lets all fight to keep it that way. Enjoy!

HRT 1-7-06 - This is a picture of Jennifer (right) and Carolyn (left) with the Archer we took on the trip. This is our flying club hangar. As you can see it was a cool day. I asked for flight following from ABE clearance delivery and they gave us a handoff to New York Center. We stayed with ATC the entire tour so we could to at 1500 feet for a better view. We also talked to Newark and Laguardia Towers.

HRT 1-7-06 - We were flying into the sun when we went south back down the river so the pics didn't come out so good. Once we came back over the George Washington Bridge they handed us back off to Newark Tower and they told us to take a hard right over the Statue of Liberty and come right over the top of the Newark airport at 1500 feet. The Newark Control Tower guys are great!
